Founded 2002
James Root founded Root & Crown in Margate after spending a decade as a qualified arborist in Durban. His goal was simple: bring big-city expertise to the South Coast, without the big-city attitude.
Over twenty years, that idea grew into a 12-person team of ISA-certified arborists, rigging specialists, and ground crew — serving hundreds of residential, commercial, and municipal clients across the KZN coastline.
Today, every job still follows the founding principle: honest assessment, expert execution, and zero compromise on safety — for your property, your trees, and our team.

No job justifies a shortcut. We perform risk assessments on every site, brief the full team before any chainsaw starts, and never skip a step — even when the client is in a hurry.
ISA certification isn't just a plaque on the wall. It means every assessment, cut, and recommendation is backed by internationally recognised arboricultural science and years of hands-on practice.
Trees are irreplaceable. When removal is necessary we recycle every chip, recommend replacements, and advocate for preservation wherever the safety margin allows.
